Dawn of the Ninja - Chapters 1 and 2

This is the latest in a series of Dawn of the Ninja reviews. Dawn of the Ninja is a fan comic being released a page a week on DawnoftheNinja.com. The entire project started in 2005 with the ultimate goal of acquiring a licence to publish their 13 chapter graphic novel. Ray first brought it to our attention shortly after the completion of chapter 1. Now that chapter 2 has been completed, I will review both issues in their entirety.

Bravest Warriors #1, by Joey Comeau & Mike Holmes

As much as I love the Crossover Comics Podcast, it has been on hiatus recently and I have been listening to a variety of other podcasts that discuss comic books. This book was brought to my attention by a hilarious review in episode #137 of the NonCanonical podcast. There was so much uncontainable laughter, I just had to get a copy. Bravest Warriors is about four teenage heroes who save aliens throughout the universe. This is an original comic book series based on the web series from Adventure Time and is aimed at teenagers and young adults.

Interview with Andy Kuhn, Artist of IDW's TMNT

IDW Publishing’s new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ongoing series has been firing on all cylinders and is a must read for any Turtles fan. Tom Waltz and Kevin Eastman are doing a great job of drawing from every Turtles universe to develop a rich, new timeline. One of the tools that IDW has used rather nicely is the Micro-Series (guest one-shots). Instead of telling a unique story that has nothing to do with the ongoing, they have used their guest one-shots to build on, and expand, the current Turtles universe. I recently had the opportunity to ask Andy Kuhn (Twitter @andykuhn), the artist on the Michelangelo Micro-Series issue as well as issues 13-16 of the ongoing, some questions about his experience.

The hottest books out there right now are on the independent scene. With DC's New 52 and Marvel NOW!, the big two of the comic book publishing world are panicking and rebooting their titles to try to boost interest with new readers. The unfortunate side-effect is that they are alienating their current readers. If you're finding yourself bored with what the mainstream has to offer, then you need to check out Sebastian Hawks - Creature Hunter.
